Marie,

I really enjoyed your honest piece about the failure to discuss the issues
of white boys and violent crimes. That particular issues is a no-no in
the popular media (even in popular educational discourse)yet they will
focus and go off about the violence in young boys without mentioning the
particulars of race. I suppose in exposing this coverup they would
somehow be implicated in the grand scheme of things. Talking and exposing
white [male]supremacy is a dangerous thing.

I am a teacher-librarian and discussed the Jonesboro thing with them and
wanted to push the discussion into the zone of race but I didn't. I teach
grade sixes (ages10-12 yr olds) in a school environment where the
particulars of race are never discussed but peremate every other aspect of
the school environment. By and large the school staff is all white in a
school with a majority of the population being of students of colour yet
most of the students catching hell are of colour.

I don't think it 's just a small town White boys thing. It's a world wide
White boy thing.

Respectfully,

Marc
