AAUW EXAMINES GENDER, TECHNOLOGY, AND TEACHER EDUCATION
Building on President Clinton's call for computer literacy in schools and
teacher education in new technologies, the American Association of University
Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation Tuesday announced a new national
commission to examine the interconnections between gender, technology, and
teacher education. This will be the first-ever commission to look
specifically
at the differences in the way girls and boys accept and use computer-based
technologies and what strategies and techniques teachers can use to ensure
equity in the classroom.
The Foundation's 18-month commission will bring together some of the best
minds in the nation from research, technology development, and education to
analyze trends, review research and make policy recommendations to be
summarized in a comprehensive report in 1999. The commission's first meeting
will be held in Washington, D.C. in September. For more information, contact
