PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH

Middle Georgia College
Cochran, Georgia, USA

A Two-Year College of the University System of Georgia

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia and
the Presidential Search and Advisory Committee of Middle Georgia
College invite applications and nominations for the position of
President. The University System of Georgia is quickly becoming
the premier higher education system in the nation because of
System programs and initiatives such as the HOPE scholarship
program, a statewide sophisticated computer network, the
outstanding collaborative "PREP" program with public schools,
tougher admission standards, and many other proactive efforts
and programs.

Established in 1884, Middle Georgia College is one of the
oldest two-year colleges in the nation and possesses an
exceptional sense of tradition. It is one of the original
members of the University System of Georgia, which was
established in 1931. The main campus at Cochran is residential;
the student body comes from throughout Georgia and from other
states and countries. MGC, in cooperation with other sister
institutions of the University system, operates the expanding
Dublin Center, which is about thirty miles from Cochran; and
also offers classes in other area communities through distance
learning. The relationship between the college and its
constituent communities is strong and positive. The college
offers over 50 transfer programs leading to Bachelor's degrees
in the liberal arts, social sciences, natural sciences, applied
sciences, business administration, education, engineering, and
pre-professional areas. The college also offers several one-year
and two-year career programs including nursing and allied
health. In addition, Middle Georgia College is the site for the
Georgia Academy for Math, Engineering and Sciences (GAMES), an
innovative educational program for accelerated high school
students. The college is in the midst of a five-year,
system-wide, phase-in of significantly higher admission
standards. Furnishing one of the most complete collegiate life
experience for a two-year college in the nation, students may be
involved in a multitude of extracurricular activities including
athletic programs which are consistently nationally-ranked,
intramural sports, clubs, and the new Warrior Marching Band. The
beautiful 160-acre main campus is on the edge of Cochran in
Bleckley County. Bleckley County has approximately 11,000
residents. Cochran is located equidistantly between Atlanta and
Savannah. The nearest metropolitan area, Macon, is forty miles
north of Cochran. Middle Georgia College is fully accredited by
the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Middle Georgia College seeks a President with energy and
integrity with the following preferred characteristics and
qualifications:

- An earned doctorate, appropriate terminal degree, or
academic credentials sufficiently distinguished to earn the
professional respect of the faculty and the community;

- Teaching experience and senior administrative leadership in
higher education is highly desirable but equivalent experience
will be considered;

- Ability to assess the educational needs in the service area,
to develop and maintain academic programs
utilizing state-of-the-art technology, and to facilitate
faculty/staff development;

- The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with
students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, members of the
community, the Chancellor, area legislators, and other
publicly-funded educational institutions;
