Commission studies women, minorities in technology
By Matt Hamblen
President Clinton last Friday signed into law a bill creating a commission
that aims to advance the presence of women and minorities in science,
engineering and technology.
Introduced by U.S. Rep. Connie Morella (R-Md.), the bill was written in
response to a 1996 report by the National Science Foundation. It aims to
strengthen and expand the high-tech workforce by ensuring that women, minorities
and people with disabilities have the skills they need to compete, Morella said.
