After the August SASH conference the Program Committee met to discuss
planning for next year's conference. One issue we discussed was our name.
We felt that sociologists against sexual harassment was too limiting since
we actually are quite interdisciplinary in our membership and include quite
a range of disciplines in our call for papers. So after some discussion we
settled on the "international coalition against sexual harassment" or
ICASH. Since we are inclusive we felt coalition was an accurate general
description. Since many of our sash-l and conference presenters are from
outside the US we felt that "international" was an accurate description of
our membership and mission.
Currently we're working on our Call For Papers for our 1999 conference at which
time we will begin to use our new name. For now we thought all of you would
like to be the first to know our new name and we hope that this may broaden our
appeal to all people who do research and advocacy in this
important area.
