Hello and welcome to the long-awaited book discussion!
We hope our technology cooperates in this second attempt.

Today begins our week-long Dialogue with the co-authors of
the new Australian book "Answering Back: Girls, Boys, and
Feminism in Schools." We are pleased to welcome Jane Kenway,
Associate Professor and Director of the Deakin Centre for
Education and Change, Deakin University, Geelong, and Sue
Willis, Associate Professor and Dean of the School of
Education, Murdoch University, Perth.

We also are delighted to be co-sponsoring this event with
the Australian Curriculum Studies Association (ACSA)'s
gender network. We thank Barbara Pamphilon, Joan Warhust,
and Jennifer McMahon, facilitators of the ACSA list, for
their enthusiasm about this idea and for working with us to
coordinate the logistics of this exchange.

A separate e-mail message will follow with an opening
statement from our guests. To respond, simply hit "reply"
and your comments/questions will be distributed to the
panelists, and to both the EDEQUITY and ACSA lists.
Messages will be posted several times each day until the
discussion ends. Final comments from the panelists will be
posted at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 16th (U.S. time), when
the Dialogue will officially end.

Before we begin, I'd just like to remind you that only
messages on the topic of the "Answering Back" Dialogue will
be posted to EDEQUITY this week. We will resume posting
messages on other topics on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Many thanks for your participation. Now let's begin our
Dialogue.
