The Expert Panel on Safe, Disciplined and Drug Free Schools has its primary
focus on drugs and violence in the schools and community. There is a separate
Expert Panel on Gender Equity issues whose DOE Coordinator is Sue Klein. That
Panel sent out a packet requesting the submission of programs that specifically
addressed sexual harassment in schools.
For the Safe, Disciplined and Drug Free Schools Panel, one of the criterion for
a designation of either a Promising or Exemplary program is that the program not
only address drugs, alcohol, violence or conduct issues, but that the program be
appropriate to the specific needs of the population addressed, including gender.
