Equity Folks,

Rarely does one find such a helpful site on the internet. I must share!

Experts from the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction
for the State of Washington, The Office for Civil Rights of the U.S.
Department of Education and the Washington Interscholastics Activities
Association (and some assorted "interested folks") have all taken time from
their busy schedules and created one really utilitarian and functional web
site. This internet first purports to be "designed to provide school
district administrators and coaches, students, parents and other interested
people with comprehensive and practical information about the Washington
state and federal rules regarding equity in middle/junior high school and
high school athletics in the State of Washington," but it appears to
provide a system that could be used in any interscholastic athletic
environment as an excellent place to begin an equity evaluation in any state in
any school.

I am retired and I surf the net. I have visited most of the sites that offer
help to those in the "trenches of equity" and I have seldom seen a resource of
this dimension. There are oodles of stuff that isn't here, but what it says it
can do, IT DOES! Usually I am cynical, but this website offers a product unique
in function and unusually complex in potential and pragmatic applications. Go
and play. And write to OSPI, OCR and WIAA and thank them on behalf of the kids.
