Race, Poverty, Health and Health Care in the New Millennium

>PURPOSE: The purpose of this day-long conference is to engage the nation in a
conversation on issues related to race, poverty, health and health care. The
conference is designed to advance the way we think about health by putting
prevention first. Health problems in the new millennium cannot be rightly
understood or solved without making the commitment to understanding the social
problems that affect health and health behavior. Therefore, expert panel
discussants will focus on the following:
(a) education and personal responsibility,
(b) health care issues in minority and underrepresented groups;
(c) health behavior and inadequate access to health care;
(d) and the politics of healthy communities.
