There have been studies indicating this: men overvalue their work and women
undervalue theirs for decades. The University of Michigan published a
study in the mid-eighties that showed that male students, when asked to describe
a hypothetical success claimed the credit for themselves and when asked to
describe why a failure said it was "because I wasn't given the right
information, my people failed me, the directions were flawed"... whereas, women
students gave credit to their team, to the help of others, and
"vacuum-cleaner-ed" the blame unto themselves for the failure. Why do we
continue to ignore gender enculturation that teaches boys to overvalue
themselves and girls to keep quiet, be neat, nice, pretty, compliant? Of course
it bears fruit in adult behavior.
