Teacher says NO to less biased curriculum...

Yesterday we met briefly with our daughter's 7th grade Social Studies teacher
and this is what transpired. The classroom is entirely lined up with historical
figures of men and not a single woman or anything that even
resembles one. When I tried to hand him out some articles including
UNCOVERING BIAS IN THE CLASSROOM; A PERSONAL JOURNEY by Marryannn Wicket, he
refused to take it. He kept his hands inside his pocket and made the indirect
remark that that seemed a bit too much to read although altogether what we
offered him did not amount to more than 10 pages. When I became a bit
''disoriented'' with this blatant disregard and what I perceived as lack of
respect I put it on his desk and politely left.

I came back and told him that I would like for him to be present when we met
with the Director of Curriculum for the district and with the school subject
leader and he said that he "did not know what he could contribute to this
meeting." So now we are preparing for an uphill battle and don't know where is
going to take us. ...
