Washington, D.C. -- The nation's community of school
technology management professionals are coming together
October 17th-20th in Washington, DC. The occasion is
the SCHOOL TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT 2000: BLUEPRINTS,
TOOLS & PRACTICES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY SCHOOL

These school technology leaders will assemble at
Washington DC's Omni Shoreham Hotel next week
to share strategies, network with colleagues, and
learn the state of the art in school technology
management models, theories, and applications.
According to Gregg W. Downey, publisher of
eSchool News and one of the organizers of the
conference, "A substantial body of expertise has
emerged on technology in the classroom, but when it
comes to the theory of good school technology "management",
K-12 decision makers have been strictly on their own."

* Douglas E. Van Houweling, president and
CEO of the Internet2 project, the national
initiative to develop a super-fast successor
to today's internet.
* Allen Schmieder, a leader in education reform, served
two years in the White House where he developed the
high-tech K-12 GLOBE Program.
* John Gage, chief science officer at Sun
Microsystems, instrumental in developing
the JAVA programming language and the man
who launched "Net Day," the national campaign
to wire every school to the internet.
The event, co-sponsored by Dell Computer Corporation,
is produced by eSchool News in cooperation with the
FamilyEducation Network, Symbol Technologies, and JDL
Technologies.
