Operation ABC Mobilization: America Buckles Up Children
Volume 3, Number 6 - October 2000
Over Memorial Day weekend in May 2000, more than 8,000 law enforcement agencies participated in Operation ABC Mobilization. The weekend's activities generated in excess of 800 television news stories and 1,500 reports in newspapers and other print outlets. The next Operation ABC Mobilization (November 20-26, 2000) is an opportunity to bring home the important messages that all Americans should be properly restrained while riding in a motor vehicle and that no one should operate a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol or other drugs. During the mobilization, law enforcement agencies and their partners in Safe Communities programs,
MADD chapters, and other organizations will use intensive enforcement, roadway checkpoints, and public awareness activities to protect children (as well as adults)
from the preventable injuries caused by failing to use child safety seats or seat belts and drivers who get behind
the wheel when impaired by alcohol or other drugs. Materials for the campaign are available by clicking on the Buckle Up America icon on the NHTSA website (www.nhtsa.dot.gov) or by telephoning NHTSA at (888) 327-4236. The Operation ABC Mobilization Law Enforcement Action Kit is available from the Airbag and Seat Belt Safety Campaign, which can be reached at (202) 625-2570 or found on the Web at .
