David A. Caputo

Pace University

President David A. Caputo has been an outstanding leader in the effort to foster a healthier Pace University campus. President Caputo appointed a campus-wide task force and charged them with formulating a comprehensive action plan for AOD prevention, education, and treatment. This task force coordinates cooperation among student groups to support enforcement of the University’s disciplinary policies relating to AOD use, as well as sponsors events on campus that provide alternatives to AOD use.

President Caputo has enlisted the entire campus and the nearby community in support of his efforts to create an overall safer environment on and around campus. First, the President’s office sponsored and participated in a “wellness” program for the entire university. Additionally, on the University’s Pleasantville Campus, President Caputo initiated a program encouraging the community to use the campus’s health and fitness center. Finally, President Caputo has also worked with local law enforcement to secure adequate enforcement of underage drinking. These comprehensive approaches to prevention prioritize community welfare and discourse between campus and community groups, rather than solely emphasizing punishing AOD policy violators on campus.
