Recognizing the importance of alcohol and other drug prevention to the health and vitality of our nation's community colleges, the Center for College Health and Safety (CCHS) launched a national effort to combat substance abuse in these settings. To initiate this effort, a select group of community college presidents were chosen to participate through membership in our Presidents Leadership Group (PLG). Community college PLG members are working with CCHS staff to develop recommendations for community college administrators to address alcohol and other drugs problems on their campuses. This recommendations report, which is similar to the original PLG report, Be Vocal, Be Visible, Be Visionary, will address the unique set of challenges that community colleges face.
The following community college presidents and chancellors participate in this initiative:
Patricia Stanley, Frederick Community College, MD
Kathie S. Sigler (retired), Miami Dade College, Medical Center Campus, FL
Michael Burke, North Idaho College, ID
G. Jeremiah Ryan, Raritan Valley Community College, NJ
Robert E. Zeigler, San Antonio College, TX
Augustine Gallego, San Diego Community College District, CA (retired)
