Philip Dubois, president of the University of Wyoming since 1997, was elected chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte by the Board of Governors of the 16-campus University of North Carolina in 2005.
For
the duration of his presidency at University of Wyoming, Philip Dubois has
remained energetically involved in efforts to reduce high-risk drinking on
campus. Early on in his career at UW, President Dubois established
a well-articulated
plan to address alcohol misuse among students. Since then, President Dubois
has continued to be a vocal and dynamic advocate of the university’s
message and policies concerning the safe and moderate consumption of alcohol.
He has overseen the dissemination of CORE Drug and Alcohol Survey data about
student drinking through educational courses, social norms marketing campaigns,
and public forums. These projects have been designed by the UW Alcohol Wellness
Alternatives, Research, & Education (AWARE) Program. In addition to his
campus-focused efforts, President DuBois has extended the realm of his activism
to the surrounding community of Laramie and the state of Wyoming. UW has begun
to participate in Wyoming’s first statewide collaborative substance
abuse prevention and intervention campaign through the Wyoming Department
of Health Substance Abuse Division. Dr. Dubois continues to be an outspoken
and committed advocate for reducing high-risk drinking at UW and around his
state.
