Randy Moffett
Southeastern Louisiana University

Working in the areas of policy development, enforcement, and educational programs, President Randy Moffett has proven to be a major proponent of AOD prevention on the Southeastern Louisiana University campus.
President Moffett’s work began in 1996 with the appointment of the University’s first Alcohol Policy Task Force, comprised of individuals representing faculty, staff, community, and the student body. From its inception, The University Alcohol Policy was built on the same philosophies found in
Be Vocal, Be Visible, Be Visionary, “not as a problem of campus alone, but of the entire community, which will require community-level action to solve.” Shortly after establishing the Alcohol Policy, the University piloted the Alcohol 101 program, a CD-ROM-based training that aims to help college students make safe and responsible decisions about alcohol use, incorporating the program into all freshman seminar classes, several upper-level courses, and the University’s Greek New Member Education Program.
President Moffett also made great efforts in instituting sanctions for first and second alcohol offenses, and launched the University’s first mandatory alcohol education class specifically for students who had been through a judicial proceeding as a result of an alcohol violation. In addition to programmatic efforts, President Moffett was influential in lobbying for a Student Activity Center that offers students healthy alternatives to AOD use and positive extracurricular activities, as well as a new residence area which has allowed Greek organizations to reside on campus, providing greater opportunities for faculty/staff interaction and educational programming.
