University of Bridgeport
President
Neil Salonen has been an active voice in alcohol prevention on the University
of Bridgeport campus. He has worked with the Student Development and Counseling
Division and the University Health Services to gather data on alcohol use
among students, and to design alcohol intervention and treatment programs.
President Salonen has taken a proactive and innovative approach to gaining
faculty support in campus-wide efforts to curb abusive student drinking by
writing a letter to faculty about signs and symptoms of alcohol misuse among
students. He has also become involved in statewide prevention efforts through
his work with the Governor’s Prevention Partnership, a program to prevent
and address substance abuse among Connecticut’s student population.
For his visible and dedicated efforts to confront alcohol and substance abuse
on the University of Bridgeport campus and in the state of Connecticut, President
Salonen is an important member of the President’s Leadership Group.
