Weber State University
Paul H. Thompson stepped down as president of Weber State University on October 1, 2002, after serving in that position for 12 years.
He received a doctorate in Business Administration from Harvard University in 1969. From 1969 to 1973, he was an assistant professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He began working at Brigham Young University in 1973, serving during his time there as professor of Organizational Behavior, chairman of the Department of Organizational Behavior, assistant dean of the Graduate School of Management, dean of the Marriott School of Management, and vice president of Development and University Relations. He came to Weber State University in September of 1990.
He served on the Executive Committee for The Chamber - Ogden/Weber, and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Ogden Eccles Conference Center, the Coalition for Utah's Future, Northern Utah Advisory Board for Wells Fargo Bank, and Weber Economic Development Board. He also previously served on the Executive Committee for the Utah State Economic Development Board; and as a member of the Board of Directors for Holy Cross Health Systems of Utah, Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority, the Governor's Workforce Development Task Force, the Board of Directors for the Ogden Eccles Dinosaur Park, the National Advisory Committee for the Reserve Officers Training Corp (ROTC) and Ogden Regional Medical Center.
He is co-author of the book “Organization and People: Readings, Cases, and Exercises in Organizational Behavior,” which is now in its fourth edition. His most recent book (with Gene Dalton) is entitled “Novations: Strategies for Career Management”. Articles of his have appeared in Harvard Business Review, Research Management, Management Review, and Organizational Dynamics. He has consulted with a number of companies including Goodyear, Exxon, IBM, General Electric, Fiber Technology, and Citibank.
Paul Thompson is married to Carolyn Nelson Thompson. They are the parents of five daughters and one son.
