Assessment is an important part of any elementary science curriculum. It provides teachers with the data and information they need to understand how well children use inquiry skills and the level and nature of their understanding of the science concepts that are presented in a given unit. The elementary teacher will use the assessment data to monitor individual children’s development, to make appropriate adjustments to their teaching, and to support meetings with parents, principals, and others. Assessment in the elementary classroom can take many forms.
