Purpose of these "Scoring Rubrics"

To inform students about progress and, ultimately, to document final achievement (depending on how the teacher uses them). Many teachers elect to use them at multiple points throughout the glue factory project, instead of just at the end. In this way, students become aware of the elements of a high-quality performance, and clearly see how they are progressing toward that standard. This approach allows students to adjust and improve their performances before the culmination of the project.

Next Steps

Following the assessment, a teacher might:

  • Discuss scores with students during the project to draw their attention to the effective (and ineffective) strategies they are using.

  • Set goals for individual students or the whole class.

  • Provide opportunities for students to review and revise presentations that do not meet standards.
