Mary K. Sheehan, RN, MSN, MBA
Mary Sheehan directs Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of the North Shore's
clinical services, coordinating the hospice/Inpatient Hospice Unit, homecare
and pediatric programs, volunteers, bereavement and social services, medical home visit program, admissions, palliative care consultation program, the Quality Assurance and Improving Organizational Performance (IOP) programs. She also serves as the executive director for HomeCare Assistants of the North Shore. A registered nurse who earned her bachelors and masters degrees in nursing from Loyola University of Chicago, Ms. Sheehan has written professional journal articles on care of the terminally ill and has planned several conferences on topics including hospice care, pain management, symptom control, and nutrition and hydration for the dying patient. She has also spoken extensively on a national basis. She is currently on the advisory board of the Hospice Association of America and recently received her Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Martha Twaddle, MD, FACP
A nationally recognized expert on palliative medicine, Dr. Twaddle has served as medical director of Hospice of the North Shore since 1989. She is currently president of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and has recently been asked to serve on the National Institute of Health's Pain and Palliative Care Advisory Board. She is also assistant professor of palliative medicine and internal medicine at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago and a faculty member of the American Medical Association's Education for Physicians on End-of-Life Care (EPEC) project. She serves on the faculty in Palliative and Rehabilitation Medicine of the Lurie Cancer Center and as a senior attending staff member at Evanston Hospital. Additionally, she serves as clinical advisory counsel to the Cancer Wellness Center in Northbrook, Illinois where she was also the recipient of the 2001 Stephen A. Weisman Humanitarian Award for Cancer Care. Dr. Twaddle is on staff at Evanston/Glenbrook Hospitals as well as Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush North Shore Medical Center. Dr. Twaddle received her MD from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed a residency in internal medicine at the Evanston Hospital of Northwestern University, where she was also chief resident.
