
Sandra Mahood is the Volunteer Partnership Programs Coordinator for The
Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. Sandra has a background in the fields
of education and training and in volunteer management. She has been
with The Hospice since 1996 and has provided leadership in the design
and development of The Hospice Teen Volunteer program. This award
winning program has received national recognition from the National
Hospice Foundation, the President's Service Award and the Points of
Light Foundation. Sandra has consulted with hospices throughout the
country who are interested in starting or expanding a youth service
program and has presented at the National Hospice and Palliative Care
Organization and Florida Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. annual
symposiums.
As the coordinator of the teen volunteer program, Ms. Mahood works with
public and private schools, community agencies and departments and teams
within The Hospice. She has provided direction in grants and program
development. The HTV (Hospice Teen Volunteer) marketing project brought
teens together to design a recruitment campaign. This project resulted
in a teen recruitment video, a brochure and a Teen Speakers Bureau.
Lifetime Legacies, a life review project, equips teens to capture a
patients' life stories on video tape, or in a scrapbook or journal.
This project included the development of life review training curriculum
and Celebrating Life, a patient journal. These tools will be available
in the near future for hospices or other health care providers
interested in replicating all or parts of this program.
