Ann Hurley and Ladislav Volicer

Ann Hurley, RN, DNSc, FAAN, CNA
Dr. Ann Hurley is the Associate Director for Education and Program Evaluation for the Geriatric Research and Education Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts. She also serves as Adjunct Professor of Nursing at Northeastern University and is a Research Associate at the Boston University School of Public Health. An Education Core Leader at the Boston University Alzheimer Disease Center, Dr. Hurley is also a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve.
Dr. Hurley has published widely on many topics relating to Alzheimer's disease, with a particular focus on instrument development and palliative care management of persons with dementia as well as on promoting interdisciplinary grant writing. Dr. Hurley received both her Masters of Science and doctorate in Nursing Science from the Boston University School of Nursing. She has received a number of honors including being named Distinguished Practitioner of Nursing by the National Academies Practice, a Distinguished Nurse Researcher by the Massachusetts Nursing Association and she is a fellow at the American Academy of Nursing.

Ladislav Volicer, MD, PhD
Dr. Ladislav Volicer is the Associate Clinical Director of the Geriatric Research and Education Clinical Center (GRECC) as well as the Medical Director
of the Dementia Special Care Unit, a 100-bed inpatient unit at the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts. In addition, Dr. Volicer serves as Professor of Pharmacology and Psychiatry and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine and as a Research Psychiatrist at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. He is an External Professor at the 3rd medical Faculty, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.
Dr. Volicer has edited five books and published over 170 papers on Alzheimer's disease, neuropharmacology, aging and bioethics. He has served extensively as a reviewer of grants and has served on the editorial boards of three publications. Dr. Volicer received his MD from Charles University School of Medicine in Prague and his PhD from the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

Scott A. Trudeau, MA, OTR/L
Scott A. Trudeau has been employed at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts since June 1994, and currently serves as Clinical Director of Rehabilitation there. Mr. Trudeau has filled many roles at the Bedford VA providing and developing occupational therapy clinical programs in both psychiatry and the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC). He has been instrumental in expanding occupational therapy student training, and has conducted a variety of clinical research projects to explore the effects of occupational therapy interventions on the lived experience of persons with terminal dementia.
Mr. Trudeau earned a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy from Tufts University—Boston School of Occupational Therapy where he graduated with honors in 1985. He returned to Tufts University and in 1998, completed a Master of Arts degree in occupational therapy with a concentration on administration and research. In conjunction with this degree, Mr. Trudeau was awarded the Marjorie B. Greene Award for academic excellence and community leadership in May 1998.
