Barbara S. Maltby, MA
Barbara Maltby is a project coordinator for research grants in the Division of Medical Ethics at Weill Cornell Medical College, with a particular focus on projects to improve end-of-life care. Current activities include Fidelity, Wisdom and Love: Patients and Proxies in Partnership, a national educational outreach project, and a book entitled End-of-Life Care: A Practical Guide to Clinical Goal-Setting. She serves on the Ethics Committee of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell Campus and was previously a member of the Ethics Committee at Vassar Brothers Hospital. She is a member of the Greater Sharon Area Community Health Foundation. For the last three years, she has been a volunteer in the inpatient unit of Jacob Perlow Hospice at Beth Israel Hospital. In 1998, she co-founded The Good Death Initiative, a national educational outreach initiative. She has been a senior fellow at The MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago and a visiting scholar at The Hastings Center. Before that time, Ms. Maltby spent 20 years in the movie business, much of it as an independent producer for Robert Redford and his production company. Her credits include Ordinary People, A River Runs Through it, King of the Hill, and The American President. She received an MA in Medical Ethics from Loyola University of Chicago in 1998 and a BA from Smith College in l962.
