Peter A. Selwyn, MD, MPH is professor and chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY, and director of the Palliative Care Service and the HIV Palliative Care Program at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Selwyn received his MD from Harvard Medical School, his MPH from Columbia University, and his clinical training at Montefiore Medical Center. He has been involved in AIDS-related clinical care, research, and teaching for over 18 years, and has written more than 100 articles on AIDS, substance use, and end-of-life care. He was a faculty scholar of the Project on Death in America (1997-2000), and is the author of the memoir Surviving the Fall: The Personal Journey of an AIDS Doctor (Yale University Press, 1998).

Mimi Rivard, MS, NP, is the nurse practitioner and clinical coordinator for the HIV Palliative Care Program at Montefiore Medical Center. She received her nursing diploma from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Waterbury, CT, and her MS in nursing from Simmons College, Boston, MA. Ms. Rivard has been involved in HIV care delivery and program development for over 12 years, in Boston, Chicago, and New York. She has been active regionally and nationally in the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care and the national network of AIDS Education and Treatment Centers, and has also been involved in consulting activities concerning HIV and palliative care in southern Africa.
