Robin L. Fainsinger, MBchB, CCFP

Dr. Fainsinger graduated from the University of Cape Town in South Africa in 1981. In 1991, he completed the first fellowship in palliative medicine at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He continues to reside in Edmonton where he has been Director of the Palliative Care Program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital since October 1994. He has recently become the Director of the Division of Palliative Care Medicine,
Clinical Director for the Regional Palliative Care Program and Director of Palliative Care for the Caritas Health Group. He is an associate professor in the Division of Palliative Care Medicine, Department of Oncology at the University of Alberta. He is active in education and research, and has published articles on a number of palliative care topics, with an interest in dehydration, delirium, sedation at the end of life, and a classification system for cancer pain. He has over 70 publications in journals and book chapters.

Carleen Brenneis, RN, MHSA
Ms. Brenneis is Program Director, Regional Palliative Care Program, Capital Health Authority. Ms. Brenneis is an oncology nurse who gained interest in palliative care working with Drs. Neil MacDonald and Eduardo Bruera as a nurse in clinical research in pain and symptom management. She completed a Masters in Health Service Administration to further her interest in
community-based programming and palliative care. Ms. Brenneis is also a member of the palliative care working group for the Canadian Strategy for Cancer
Control.
