Innovations in End-of-Life Care

| Gail M. Lovinger is currently Assistant Secretary of the American Hospital Association and Vice President, Association Governance. In this capacity, she coordinates the policy development and governance activities of the Association, including Association awards programs, and staffs the AHA Board of Trustees. She directs the Circle of Life Awards program, which celebrates innovation in end-of-life care, as well as The American Hospital Quest for Quality Prize. Her past responsibilities have included directing speechwriting and staffing bioethics and strategic planning committees. As staff to various AHA bioethics committees, she has been a primary writer of Values in Conflict: Resolving Ethical Issues in Health Care and Effective DNR Policies: Development, Implementation, and Revision. She has given a number of presentations on innovation in end-of-life and palliative care and on advance directives. She currently serves on the Catherine’s Fund Committee (sponsored by Sisters of Mercy Health System-St. Louis). Ms. Lovinger has a master's degree in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, where she also taught for a year. She graduated summa cum laude from the same university with a bachelor's degree in Russian. Ms. Lovinger also has done consulting for a variety of health care organizations and agencies, specializing in communications training, discussion facilitation, and editorial services. Born in Chicago, she now lives in Evanston, Illinois, where she serves on the board of the local animal shelter. |
