Goals of Problems with a Point

Learning goal: to provide an opportunity for students to learn by solving carefully organized sequences of problems. In most sequences, students develop new mathematical concepts and deeper understanding of familiar ones while practicing essential skills.

Convenience goal: to make it easy for teachers to find problems they need for each particular lesson they teach.

Curriculum goal: to provide problems that fit and supplement various curriculum styles, both traditional and reform. Since our problem sequences emphasize both extensive skill practice and conceptual understanding, they can enhance most classroom goals.

Professional Development goal: to provide models for a variety of styles of problem sequences that teachers can use as examples for creating their own problem sequences.
