Preparation for Use

To select a problem sequence for a particular lesson, you may search by the topic you will teach and other criteria you’d like to use. Read the information given on the List of Problems page. (See more about the List of Problems and Synopsis for how this information can be helpful to you.) Select a problem sequence and carefully read all its parts, including the solution. This will give you a better idea about how to use the sequence.

If time permits, try to solve the sequence on your own or with your colleagues, to get a sense of how your students might approach the problem and where their difficulties may lie. Many of the problem sequences that you’ll find in this database were tested at professional development workshops with middle and high school teachers. Participants found the experience of working on the problems together with other teachers and sharing ideas and approaches very rewarding.

If you have suggestions or comments about the preparation and use the problems in the classroom, please contact us.
