Description
Make It Happen! is a comprehensive school-based approach
to integrating inquiry-based teaching and learning into the middle school
curriculum. It uses an interdisciplinary framework in which teachers from
different disciplines--including special education--form a collaborative team to develop
and implement an integrated research curriculum unit. A facilitator leads
the team of teachers through the curriculum development process, at the end of which
the teachers design an interdisciplinary unit that is taught collaboratively across their
classrooms.
Developed in response to pressing educational needs facing today's middle
schools, Make It Happen!:
- provides young adolescents with learning opportunities that enhance
thinking skills
- invites teachers to share decision making authority on instructional
issues
- helps schools organize in such a way as to promote change efforts
