If you are a technology center that is interested in helping young people explore questions about science and technology, we want you to become part of ScienceQuest!

Prospective coaches, volunteers, and business partners should visit the Friends of SQ section.

Community Technology Center Coordinators

Community technology centers should be committed to implementing a high-quality informal science inquiry project for youth participants. The following is an outline of resources that SQ staff and CTC staff must contribute to bring ScienceQuest to their center.

ScienceQuest Staff Provides
Technology Centers Provide

In-person:

  • SQ hotline for questions about working with the team
  • Two-day training for volunteers and center coordinators
  • Access to a science specialist
  • Contacts at science museums, and other local resources for fieldtrips
  • Materials
  • Activities for use with teams
  • Materials for use with teams
  • Templates of logistical materials

Electronic support:

  • Listserv for Q and A, support and ways to get additional materials.
  • Website with materials and resources, including
  • Online Resources (the on-line database)
  • Abundant web development tools
  • e-contacts for linking with online experts

Finale:

  • Hosting of web sites
  • Celebration for all teams

EDC staff also assist with:

  • Publicity to local media
  • Finding coaches
  • Resources for forming additional relationships with local institutions, business leaders, recruiting volunteers
  • A network of SQ participants

People:

  • Recruitment, selection and supervision of volunteers and youth
  • Communication with volunteers, youth and parents regarding expectations of the project and other information as needed.
  • Contact with SQ staff, attend occasional meetings and supply informal progress reports. Coordinator also provides additional support to coaches.
  • Assistance with technology questions that arise with teams.
    Orientation for volunteers to your center

Team logistics:

  • Basic supplies for teams (pencils, notebooks, etc)
  • A way for teams to get to and from field-trip sites
  • Space for teams to meet and work regularly, as well as store their supplies.

Technology:

  • Working technology and internet connection.
  • Free access for teams.
  • Basic web creation tools and software
