ScienceQuest teams develop a plan to answer their question that includes conducting research in the following categories:
- Reading a variety of printed materials (e.g., fiction and nonfiction books, magazines, online resources)
- Asking people for information (e.g., conducting interviews, conducting surveys, and posting and receiving messages on the Internet)
- Watching or viewing (e.g. video, television shows, slides, and CD-ROMs)
- Doing an activity or participating in an event (e.g., conducting an experiment, visiting a museum, working with a computer simulation, and taking photographs)
Coaches and teams should brainstorm and schedule activities that fit in each category. In the Resources section, we have included a sample chart that you may want to use for brainstorming with your team.

Generally, teams need one meeting or less to develop a plan for their investigations.
