An Introduction to ScienceQuest

ScienceQuest is an after school program, where kids between 10 and 14 years old engage in exciting, science and technology explorations at Community Technology Centers (CTC). ScienceQuest staff will train CTC staff and volunteers to run 10- to 15-week projects with small teams of young adolescents that culminate in youth-developed web sites showing off what they have learned.

ScienceQuest was launched in the Boston area during the spring of 2001 and has worked in over 100 CTCs in 27 cities nationwide, including the greater NY and NJ areas. Over 350 kids - girls and boys, kids with and without disabilities, representing many races and ethnicities, and of all academic abilities - have participated. We are funded by the National Science Foundation, among others.

Spring 2003 Workshop

We will hold a workshop for center coordinators, coaches, and volunteers to run after school ScienceQuest programs for youth. The workshop will be held in Manhattan, NY (exact location to be announced) and covers integrating informal science learning with technology lessons, planning an ScienceQuest project over 10-15 weeks, information on web site building and hosting, and strategies for ensuring that all youth participants contribute and learn. ScienceQuest coaches and coordinators do not have to be science experts, only willing to learn and be excited about kids' curiosity!
