ScienceQuest Q&A

Question: Who is ScienceQuest for?
Answer: All kids, usually between the ages of 10 and 14.

Q: What will I be doing?
A: Meeting with a small team of other kids, and a coach. You and the rest of the team get to pick a question that will be the focus of your ScienceQuest project. With some help from your coach you'll gather andformation and do hands-on experiments. Then you get to design and publish a website, so everyone can see all the cool stuff you did for your project and what you learned about your question.

Q: When does ScienceQuest take place?
A: A ScienceQuest team usually meets for a couple of hours after school every week, for about ten weeks.

Q: Do I have to know a lot about science or computers to do ScienceQuest?
A: No! Anyone can be in ScienceQuest, whether you know a little or a lot about a subject.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: It's free! Pretty cool, huh?

Q: What kind of project can I do?
A: You and your team get to pick the question you want to answer, so you can do a project on just about anything! Some other teams have done projects on chocolate, volcanoes, snakes, toys, rollercoasters, pets, and medieval technology (whoa!). Want to see more projects? Check out the webpages other teams built.

Q: What kinds of activities have other teams done?
A: ScienceQuest teams have done all kinds of things, from growing their own bacteria to testing paper airplanes in a homemade wind tunnel! Some ScienceQuest teams have taken trips to science museums, zoos, laboratories - or just around the block, asking questions about their own neighborhoods. One group visited a candy factory; another went to a workshop where neon signs are made.

Q: Sounds cool. How do I join?
A: Chances are, a parent, educator, or other adult suggested you check out this site. Talk to that person about joining a ScienceQuest team in your area. If you haven't heard about a ScienceQuest team starting up near you, feel free to send us an email.
