Research

Working in collaboration with other EDC projects and with our partners in the field, we compile and analyze the latest research on gender issues within education. Through digests, working papers, and other documents, we translate this research into comprehensive frameworks for educators and policymakers. We link the research with examples of how it works and offer recommendations for practical applications. Our latest research focuses on outcomes for different groups of girls and women as they move from K-12 to higher education and work. Future research will focus on gender equity for boys and young men and on the special concerns of immigrant girls and women.

New!

Exploring the MST Equation

This newly developed working paper by the Gender and Diversities Institute draws together the latest data and research to provide an in-depth examination of what is happening for girls in math and science. Rather than present a generalized overview, it looks specifically at educational needs, access, and outcomes for different groups of girls and women, and by disaggregating the data by gender and race/ethnicity, disability, and income, offers both a celebration of how far we've come and indicators of how far we need to go to make math and science success a reality for all.

Digests are prepared by experts who bring together cutting-edge educational issues with a gender equity focus to examine the impact of the issue on both girls and boys.

Working papers offer more in-depth examinations of important educational topics, blending research, practice, and recommendations into short, readable guides. Working papers cover a range of topics, including technology, science, gendered violence, self-esteem, and legislation.

Frequently Asked Questions, or FAQs, draw on the latest research and practice to provide answers to basic questions about Title IX, math, science, disabilities, and other educational concerns.

Educational equity research is also an important thread within WEEA Program grants. The WEEA collection published by the WEEA Equity Resource Center contains many examples of groundbreaking research results that translate research into practical applications for parents, teachers, administrators, and counselors.
