Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund
AMOUNT: The MMMF awards six grants of about $11,000 each year; they
are not renewable.
DESCRIPTION: The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund was established in 1981 to
honor the late Margaret McNamara and her commitment to the well being of
women and children in developing countries. The purpose of the grant is to
support the education of women from developing countries who are committed
to improving the lives of women and children in their home countries.
Previous grant recipients were studying agriculture architecture and urban
planning, civil engineering, education,
forestry,journalism, nursing, nutrition, pediatrics, public administration,
public health, social sciences and social work.
QUALIFICATIONS OR CRITERIA FOR APPLYING: Must be a female national of a
developing country ( and not a U.S. Green Card holder) enrolled in an
accredited educational institution in the U.S. by September 2000 Must
be interested in issues that relate to women and/or children and be
planning on returning to her country within two years of the date on
which the grant is made
Must be at least 25 years old by January 1, 2001.
Must reside in the U.S. at the time she submits the application
Must demonstrate financial need
Must not be related to a Word Bank staff member or spouse
LENGTH OF FUNDING: Yearly
APPLICATION FORMS AND DEADLINE: Application forms for the 2001/2002
academic year will be available from September 2000 until January 31,
2001. The deadline for receiving completed applications is February
15, 2001. The MMMF will notify recipients after April 30, 2001.
