Let me say I did not share the story to support a particular point of view
but to point out that there are many perspectives and a variety of life
experiences that individual children have from which they gain their
reality. It is important that we as adults and parents listen to their
reality in assessing what and how we can help them to learn that
individuals regardless of their gender or race can do a variety of tasks.
I concur that there are many teachable moments in the life of children.
I take caution when speaking for others about their beliefs or
experiences--that is the lesson for me in the example I gave.
By the way, we have two cats and they have a female vet!!! I wonder what
they would say about the gender of veterinarians!
