Since you message was quite long, I won't copy it in my reply, since the
reply is generally to all your points and not specifically to any one.

It seems to me that you presume that history does not count, that we act
now in a way which is independent of where we, the city, the state, the
nation, the world, have been.

In the world I know, everything I see, think, imagine, whatever, all my
experiences are framed by my past...something I cannot escape. Thus all
that I do in some why compensates for what has gone on in the past. I
cannot start anew.
