[EDEQUITY] Workshop Announcement

From: Ineke Ceder (iceder@Wellesley.edu)
Date: Wed Aug 30 2000 - 14:30:51 EDT

Dear Colleague

This fall, the Raising Confident and Competent Girls project is again
offering a one-day workshop for middle school personnel, parents, and staff
of youth-serving organizations.
Maybe you have already had the opportunity to attend the workshop; please
pass this announcement on to your colleagues or anyone you think may be
interested.

The purpose of the workshop is to create a dialogue on how we can support
and foster self-esteem in middle school girls. The workshop is also
intended to help participants understand some of the paradoxes or
contradictory manifestations of adolescent development, to recognize the
many issues which can influence self-esteem, and to explore strategies that
best fit the needs of diverse girls.

The workshop is based on the Raising Confident and Competent Girls Research
Project carried out by researchers from Wellesley College Center for
Research on Women.

What is unique about this interactive workshop?
- It is research-based;
- It incorporates information from four racial and ethnic groups of girls;
- It includes the multiple perspectives of students, teachers,
administrators, school staff, and parents;
- It incorporates strategies that are grounded in the most current
research
on the developmental needs of girls in middle school.

Date: Saturday, November 4 (youth-service providers);
      Saturday, November 11 (school personnel and parents)
Time: 9-5
Where: Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA
Fee: $175 includes lunch and materials for the workshop

Deadline for registration is October 30, 2000
