When I posted the item about more women being online than men world
wide, and asked how we might use this knowledge to further gender
equity, I was hoping to evoke descriptions of online courses and
activities that might begin to provide for girls and women what is more
readily available to boys and men, in that girls and women are more
isolated, confined to the home and other "safe" places, and perhaps even
limited to covert use of the computer and the Internet in some types of
homes. Do you know of such uses? Can you suggest how we might cater to
such clear interest and openness to provide the exposure to scientific
information and to scientific interaction that males more easily access
in roaming around more freely in the public world.
