I thought some of you may know some students who would be interested in
the following contest. The Celebration of Women in Engineering (CWE) web
site is also a good resource.

Frances K. Morse

National Academy of Engineering Website Design Contest!

Design an "Engineering: It's a Girl Thing" website that inspires girls
to
think about a career in engineering. The site should provide information
on
what girls need to know and do to explore engineering -- things like
being curious,
finding innovative solutions to problems, and taking science, math, and
technology
classes in middle school and high school.

Awards!
First prize entries will be published on the CWE website and receive
$250.
Second prize entries will receive $150, and third prize entries will
receive
$100. The winning entries will be announced during National Engineers
Week,
February 18-24, 2001.

Who Can Enter?
The contest is open to girls, boys, or teams of up to 6 students. There
are
two age categories -- grades 4-8 and grades 9-12.

What Do I Do?
Design a website with up to 5 pages. Entries will be judged on their
overall
creativity, their appeal to girls, and how they get across the message
"Engineering: It's a Girl Thing."

When Is the Deadline?
Entries must be e-mailed or postmarked by January 2, 2001.

Where Do I Get More Details?
Check out the Celebration of Women in Engineering website (
http://www.nae.edu/cwe) for more information on the design contest,
engineering
as a career, and how to get into engineering.
