POSITION TITLE: SAVE (Students Against a Violent Environment) Center
Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Wellness and Recreation Services
APPOINTMENT TYPE: 9 Month Term Appointment, Pay Grade III
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Develops a program to decrease gender-based
violence; develops peer-based programs; assists
in the development and delivery of a sensitivity educational module;
and serves as campus liaison to various groups to further
campus violence prevention efforts.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops a violence prevention project focusing on men taking a
responsibility with other men to end violence; recruits
faculty, staff, and students to receive training in Mentors in
Violence Prevention (MVP) model; coordinates MVP training
sessions; and serves access to male living and learning
environments to recruit representative mentors and provide MVP
training.
Develop peer-based programs including SAVE Frontline, a peer to
peer reporting system; networks with other institutions
of higher education and violence prevention grant recipients to
identify peer models most suited to our campus/community;
develops training curriculum for peers; provides training and
supervision for peer staff; and secures access to student living
and learning environments to recruit representatives for peer-based
programs.
Assists in the development and delivery of a sensitivity
educational module responsive to underserved student populations;
establishes relationships with organizations representing
underserved students and with faculty and staff who provide special
outreach to underserved populations; coordinates development of
curriculum module that addresses special needs of
underserved populations; and incorporates module into inservice
training for UNI Public Safety, Cedar Falls Police
Department, Crisis Services, and UNI Wellness and Recreation
Services staff.
Serves as campus liaison to Crisis Service advocacy program, Cedar
Falls Police Department, College Hill Neighborhood
Association, and statewide campus violence prevention efforts;
recruits students to participate in Crisis Services advocacy
training; and serves as campus representative to pertinent
associations/coalitions that have the potential to further campus
violence prevention efforts.
SALARY RANGE: $19,170 to $21,000
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Health Education,
Social Work, Family Studies, Counseling,
Psychology or related field plus at least one year of experience
developing and implementing programs for young adults
focused on health promotion or social issues required. Experience in
staff training and supervision also required.
