Professor or Associate Professor

Social Foundations of Education
(history or philosophy of education concentration)

The Department of Social Foundations of Education at the University of Georgia
announces a tenure track position, professor or advanced associate professor,
in a new, emerging program. This program currently has two areas of
concentration: U.S. history of education and policy studies; sociocultural
studies in education, nationally and globally. The program is both disciplinary
and interdisciplinary and current faculty focus on democracy and education,
culture and diversity, social justice and equity, politics and ethics,
power and resistance, and race, class, and gender.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach graduate courses in the history or philosophy of education and
related areas of social foundations of education; share responsibility
for teaching undergraduate introductory social foundations of education
courses

Conduct and publish research in the history or philosophy of
education and the social foundations of education

Advise graduate students, direct graduate student research, and serve on
graduate students' advisory or research committees

Engage in faculty governance activities

Provide leadership in program development, student recruitment,
coordination of student activities, and faculty and departmental affairs

QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate in history or philosophy with an emphasis on education or in
education with a concentration in the history or philosophy of education
Record of publications appropriate for desired rank at the University of
Georgia and evidence of having established a national to international
reputation as a scholar in the history or philosophy of education

Recommendations and other documentation attesting to the excellent
quality of the candidate's teaching and advising, research and writing,
leadership in both areas, and likelihood of continuing success at a
major research university.

STARTING DATE, CONTRACT, AND SALARY: August, 1999; 9-month
contract with competitive salary and benefits; summer employment
possible.
