Women in Sports

One factor that has been significant to me during this period of
dismantling professional women's basketball, while at the same time
nearing settlement of the NBA strike, is collective bargaining. My heart
broke for the Portland Power players we love, as we read about them not
being forwarned about possible elimination; as we read about them moving
away. Other employers give employees notice of potential layoffs. These
women had none. Next time, I hope women players protect themselves by
requiring owners to warn them of impending doom, and not be so trusting,
so vulnerable.
