You and others may be interested in the article on "Scientific Literacy
for All"in the March 2000 issue of The Science Teacher. The focus of the
arcticle is how to introduce the language of science to second language
learners (English being the 2nd language). The same strategies suggested
for second language science students would apply, I think, to girls (and
boys): the learning of concepts in depth, focusing on process and
critical thinking skills. The aricle introduces several graphic
organizers that help English language learners learn the science language.
I think the strategies would work, in fact, for all....
