It is interesting that the states that held out the longest with 6-player
basketball (e.g., Arkansas, Iowa, Tennessee) were the same ones that
started
girls' programs long before other states. As for GAA, most programs were
intramural rather than interscholastic. GAA also (in general) did not
offer
state tournaments and was not part of the state athletic associations.
