[EDEQUITY] Benefit to all students

Responding to Jessica Gavora and Craig Flood comments:

I feel that I have read many responses to Amber's concerns. But what
comes immediately to mind are two points:

If organized athletics in the educational setting are so valuable for male
students, don't we want that benefit to extend to all students?

Isn't this issue similar in some ways to the racial segregation practiced
in decades past? I mean those schools never really were "separate but
equal," and the step-child status of girls' athletics often reminds me of
how the Black schools would get "new" books when the White schools were
ready to passed on their used texts.

Craig Flood also raises an excellant point by mentioning football, but I
have yet to see a comprehensive budget analysis of the expenses versus
gate receipts. I often hear it is football that makes money for athletic
departments, but I wonder how that balances out when the expenses are
factored in.
