[EDEQUITY] Underrepresented in special education

A colleague kindly caught my unintended error in my previous message. I
meant
to say that girls are UNDERrepresented in special education rather than
boys
being overrepresented; the reasons are complex, but include gender
differences in behavior patterns that bring attention to boys more readily
as
well as gender bias, such as differences in teacher expectations for boys
and
girls. Sorry for the goof, but it is heartening to see interest in gender
equity issues among students receiving special education services. These
issues have been far too invisible yet the consequences for students are
severe. Thanks.
