I would recommend Gloria Steinem's book on self-esteem as well as Peggy
Orenstein's book School Girls about how junior high school girls
experience significant lowering of self-esteem due to intensified gender
socialization. I would also strongly recommend Allan Johnson, The Gender
Knot: Unraveling Our Patriarchal Legacy.
